Kupu Kupu Barong Villas & Tree Spa by L'Occitane

The staff is super friendly and always attentive. The setting is superb and the activities interesting. It is certainly not worth a 5 star, but it remains a very nice establishment.

We booked river view villa for 2 nights, we stayed in villa no. 39, we found Snake, insects and frog in the room, we change our night stay from villa to normal room. Location and service is good but maintenance of room is very poor, next day we tried to explain them about snake and other insects, reception people were not ready to listen, very unfortunate.

Restaurant, little quantity food, questionable quality.
We are served rolls eaten by rodents.
The table alone on the WC side, smells of urine.
The glass jars of yogurts for breakfast Molds in the corners of the jars.
Breakfast always the same just one day pancake, the next day abyss otherwise no change.
Lovely staff

Pros: The staff here are AMAZING! They are so nice, so accommodating and so incredible. The location is pretty good, and it is a short trip to downtown. The shuttle service, too, is very convenient for daily trips to the center of Ubud.

Cons: The rooms are extremely outdated and need lots of repairs. Our tub leaked, one of our faucets sprayed you when you turned it on and the other sink backed up, EVERY SINGLE floor panel cracked when walking around and there was a gap between the floor and the doors so ants got in a lot. We got a room with a pool and it wasn't usable because it was too too cold. We also had several resident rats living in our ceiling that would keep us up at night and one got into our suitcase and ate a protien bar of mine. Our TV didn't work, and one of our ait conditioner units was out too. Our wifi was spotty and didn't work for about 3 days and wasn't very strong when it did work. We also only had access to about two electrical plugs, so we were constantly juggling what to have plugged in. There were also only two light switches in the room so if you had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night you have to turn on half of all the lights just to have some light in the toilet.

All of these cons don't sound like a big deal but add them all up and it was an almost terrible experience.
While the staff at the Kupu Kupu are wonderful, I would not recommend this hotel. Especially for the price

This resort claims to be a 5 star but i wouldn't rate it even a 2 star
The rooms are average ambiance. There is no TV connection. It only works on WiFi and there is hardly any WiFi signal. 4G doesn't connect in many rooms. The 3 days we stayed, we didn't have WiFi and the reason - Service provider issue. After second day, i had to vent my frustration with the manager about lack of response to phone calls and my repeated walk all the way to front desk, magically WiFi started working. So much for the issue with "Service provider".
There is no room service. Breakfast is very good but at other times their restaurant and the service is pretty ordinary. Quality of food was pretty below standard
To the extent some of the staff have been openly critical about management. They mentioned in confidence, the network and front office lack of response is not new. Far cry from a "5-star"

We had the WORST experience staying here. The property isn’t maintained and the staff is clueless and confused and just keep saying sorry without really addressing anything. The room didn’t have wifi, the whole day the staff kept saying that it’s getting fixed and then when I asked for checkout because I had to work which was impossible to do without wifi, they gave me a wifi booster. They could have done this in the morning itself had they cared about customer service but lest only did it because of the threat of checkout. Breakfast was abysmal, dishes were dirty, bathroom hadn’t been cleaned. In short, would be coming back ever.

Rooms are beautiful place is bad. They don’t serve fast for food so you have to wait in the open area restaurant with a lot of insects and the rooms have a lot of insects we found many on our bed I think our window was not proper so it had a way for the insects to come in. Very disappointing

Nice location, entrace to the resort is a bit narrow and there were no street lights in the way which made it very difficult to walk upto the main road.
I stayed in a 2BR pool villa, the pool was big and clean, rooms were spacious but little old, needs renovation.
There were only 2-3 charging points in the villa.
Wifi connectivity was good in the room and the television was a smart tv with you tube
Staff were very courteous and helpfull, but took too much time to respond.
We had indian food for dinner, quality of the food was good but with very less vegetarian options in the india tandoor restaurant, room service was very slow, we had to wait atleast an hour after ordering.
Breakfast provided by hotel had veg options but the food was tasteless.
Over all good property but not worth the money spend

We booked for River View Private pool Villa and really very excited to visit this,
But the room alloted was really pathetic and 10% of what actually we saw while booking.
Staff was not at all polite and understandable.
They are just looting in name of so called Private Pool River View Villa.
Dont fall in their scam, There are many better Villas than this worst one.

Buyer beware.

Our stay at Kupu Kupu was quite disappointing to say the least. The room we were given looked nothing like what Expedia had displayed, almost as if it was a downgrade. This was the first red flag.

The pool was virtually too freezing to enjoy and take in the views on offer.

On our second morning, our day of departure, we uncovered the horrific state of the bedding in which we had been sleeping on. Brown, dirty and stained pillows and mattress disguised by bleached white covers.

The restaurant is an absolute rip-off for what you receive quality wise. No complimentary water for their customers. A blatant money grab.

We paid $1350AUD for 2 nights stay here and thankfully we were given a nights stay as refund. In hindsight was probably too generous on our behalf given the condition of the villa itself.

I would never return, and I suggest you take your business elsewhere.

This hotel was a really good experience the view from the room was breathtaking, we had our own infinity pool and our own butler.

Pleasing and courteous staff. Though very limited variety of veg food. It was good. Would strongly recommend for others. Room is also very spacious and very clean.

We spent 2 nights in the Riverfront Pool Villa at Kupu Kupu Barong. The area and views were stunning, you could see the river flowing by next to our private pool. The area of the resort felt private and quiet, perfect to connect with nature. The staff was super friendly and helped us with everything we needed. Our highlight was the candle light dinner at the infinity pool, the setup was romantic with flowers and candles, the dinner was delicious and the server was super kind!

Very friendly staff, this is probably the strongest point of this hotel. Otherwise rooms are nice even if hotel should get some restoration. Views are awesome. Now it's not anymore a 5 stars hotel, despite the effort of the team, TVs are not working, there's moisture in the rooms, menus are quite limited, there's no bar, etc. Only price of services provided remain 5 stars.

The most special place - where my (now) husband proposed to me and where we spent the most magical few days. Literally feels like being in the jungle. Massages are exceptional. Staff so welcoming and friendly, going above and beyond to make our stay so perfect. Villa with pool was beautiful and we felt like royalty! Just perfect in every way.

I proposed to my wife here and you made it so incredibly magical. It’s really a beautiful place, 3 years on still the most beautiful that I have even been to. Thank you so much for making our stay so incredibly special. I can’t put into words how great this place is. If you are undecided, I really recommend just going, you will have an incredible stay!

1) when I went to my room the passage was dark and dingy
2) when I entered the room the window had a huge gap in it and it was quite old
3) when I went for tea the milk jug wasn't cleaned properly and it had marks on it same with the coffee cups
4) there are way to many steps
5) at night we saw lizards on the ceilings there was like 5 and we heard a mouse squeaking in our roof which made us freak out
6) the green curtains make it look disgusting

Great looking property very humble staff and top rated views. Couldn't ask more for a honeymoon couple. Spa centre is a huge bonus

When I arrived I realized that all photos in their website are totally different with the actual resort. This place is outdated and requires some updating (total renovation for sure). The pool is dirty and unhygienic. I come to bali more than 4 times for the last 2 years and this is the worst accomodation experience ever. I dont think this should be considered a 5 star resort. I would not go here again. The only thing that I like from this resort is only their friendly staff.
