Rinjani Samalas Tour & Trekking

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour! The 4D3N is amazing, and the best day was day 3-4 at the lake and valleys! I loved the hot springs and camp fire. The guides and porters were all wonderful to have conversations with. They were so fun and encouraging. They were so memorable and I will miss spending time with them, especially Sinjan and Apri! I would love to come back one day with Rinjani Samalas:)

I loved that they cared for the environment. I remember picking up alot of trash with Sinjan as we walked through Rinjani.

I felt very safe and well taken care of the entire trek, with warm drinks, amazing meals, snacks, warm sleeping mat and everything we needed!

Rinjani is absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to be back.

Just completed the 3 day trek of Rinjani! Azmi and his team was amazing. From the first night at the bungalow to our guides throughout the trek. Would recommend to all my friends!

Amazing experience with the team (Edi, our guide together with A Chong, Ryan and Burat, our porters). We were very well taken cared of and the overall team dynamics was fun filled and easy going with guides and porters actively engaging and motivating us. Edi was also very proactive and put our safety first, suggesting for us to take an easier route knowing we might compromise our physical wellbeing trying to follow the original route. And let’s just say, it was worth every bit as we were taken onto another scenic route through torean village. The porters also made sure we were well fed and constantly assisted with our belongings.

The tour also provided all necessities (food, tents, sleeping bags, walking sticks, headlamps, etc). Value for money and easy communication throughout.

Our guide (Edi) and his accompanying porters (Ah Chong, Ryan, and Bulat) were absolutely accommodating and such good sports! They matched our pace (very slow) and ensured we were constantly well-fed, hydrated and rested. My group was very unprepared for the hike and ended up being very exhausted and slow, the porters and Edi willingly offered to carry our bags for us and change the route so we'd have a more enjoyable trip. My friends and i really appreciated it. We also had a very memorable bonfire night, where we mingled with altogether and danced HAAHAH. Towards the last day, my knees were so painful but i persisted. But i guess it showed in my movements and Edi noticed and called for more breaks so i could rest.

Overall, very thoughtful and well coordinated trip. Edi also took many photos and videos for us when we were trekking. So we ended the trip with much to look back on too.

We never thought we would succeed in reaching the summit of Rinjani (I myself had no experience). Thanks to the good service of Azmi (clear communication, accommodation, transportation, explanations and extra equipment) everything went smoothly. Big thanks to the friendly porters (Kerti & Belo) who provided us with delicious meals and set up our tent, chairs, table and toilet tent by the time we reached the crater lake. So much respect for what these guys do! In addition, we had a great guide, Awal. He has 22 years of experience, and we could really tell. When we went to summit, I followed his footsteps and he took my pace. Without him I would not have succeeded. He also helped me a lot with the decending part. We really noticed a big difference with groups who booked a cheaper tour. We had a lot more comfort, and all the extra's definitely make it worth booking with Rinjani Samalas!

Great experience with the organization RinjaniSamalas of the trek and that the trek leader, Apri, n Azmi were cooperative. It's always a pleasure when everything comes together smoothly during an adventure like trekking.

Azmi and his team at Rinjani Samalas Tour & Trekking were great at assisting with us with the preparation before we arrived at Lombok. Apri and Sorn were our guides and were patient when one of us got injured. They were also effective communicators with excellent English speaking skills.
Area of improvement would be the addition of first aid kit to help with injuries throughout the program.
Overall, it was an enjoyable hike with the amazing views, good food and great company!

What can I say other than that we had an amazing time with Samalas. I believe it is fair that I write an extensive review as it is impossible to put it shortly.

I will discuss (1) the initial contact and service level, (2) hotel stay, (3) food and snacks, (4) equipment quality, and (5) overall experience and price rating.

(1) Initial contact and service level
The initial contact was smooth and the company reacted quite promptly to our emails (we sent the first email at 10 pm and received a response around 15 min later). At our arrival, there were several young man that were helping us with our luggage and we were welcomed with a fruit juice. The route was explained and an opportunity was given to ask questions. Everything was quite smooth, even though we did not get to meet the owner of the company/our email contact at the beginning. After the hike and back at the hotel, we were given the opportunity to shower and freshen up before our drop of at the harbour. What’s nice is that the pickup on Lombok prior to booking, and delivery to a private (!) boat after a hike in case you’re heading to another (Gili) island, we’re included in the package. You won’t have to think about anything else in the meanwhile. Overall, the staff provided great services and were interested in who we were and our stories. The English level depended A little bit to whom ever you were talking to but was sufficient in my opinion. Overall, 5/5 star is deserved here.

(2) hotel stay
Hotel room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, there was no AC or anything to cool the heat. There was also no mosquito net. This has been provided as feedback for the hotel. The bathroom was simple but provided everything that you need during your stay. Overal, I will award it 3.5/5 stars. When an AC is available and a mosquito net is added, it will go up to 5/5.

(3) food and snacks
The food was great and the snacks were there in case you needed them. During the way up, we had fresh fruit, a plate full of freshly prepared food (meat, veggies and rice are prominent). Fresh bottles of sauce and unfiltered coffee were also included. On the top, we again received local foods and snacks when needed. Bottled water was also available. In overall, I believe that it will not have been too different from other operators but it still worth 5/5 stars.

(4) equipment quality
Although rented, all the equipment used was of sufficient quality. You get what you expect and what you are paying for. Facilities included a tent, warm sleepingbags, tiny pillows, a 10cm-thick matras (fine for sleeping), fishing-chairs, a aluminium roll-up table, good cutlery, and a toilet tent. I would give it 4.5 stars out of 5 due to the fact that it’s rented and not really branded. But that’s a matter of personal taste rather then quality.

(5) As far as expectations go, Samalas provides the full experience that you expect and are looking for when climbing Rinjani. The crew leaves earlier and walk faster when started so that the table and food is almost ready to be served when you arrive. Same for the camping site at the campsite. The guide speaks fine English and everyone was generally open and friendly. The crew made a small bonfire where we could shelter from the cold wind. We would be offered tea or coffee when cold or tired. The camp set-up is also fine. Eventhough the was a bit less (your camped a bit lower than other operators) but you are more sheltered against de wind. The sunset and sunrise provide a stunning view with the summit in the background and you feel like your on top of the world when overlooking the clouds. At night, the sky is filled with beautiful stars and galaxies like you’d expect them. It’s truly breathtaking. All-in-all, I would rate the experience a 5/5. I’m very happy that we decided to go and would recommend you to do the same!

This was the best experience in Bali! The staff and the organisation was impeccable. Azmi, Willy, Tomy gave us a warm welcome and at the end of the excursion they gave us a room to have a shower and a fruit juice to recover energy.
A huge thank you to the guide, Awal, great and sage man, he took us to the top in a windy day! And to the porters, Parti and Krishna, simply heroes who carry with all the stuff, cook and make jokes.

I definitely recommend this excursion with this well done organized guys. The deserve more than 5 stars.

The guide was very available for any questions we had. Our transfers have been well organized. The material was very good (sleeping bags, gloves, hat.) and also the food was very delicious. We were not in need of everything.

We did the 2D1N trek to Rinjani crater rim. Initial communication via email was flawless and right from the transport to Senaru we knew we were in good hands. On the way I somehow lost my phone (my fault) and everybody from the Samalas team was very helpful and they did manage to recover my phone! The first night they arranged a completely fine accommodation and then the trek itself was very well organized. We were teamed up with guide called Nus, who was just excellent, really nice guy with a constant smile on his face, ready to assist and help with anything, always looking after us and telling us interesting things about local nature, thank you Nus, it was really nice meeting you! Our porters did a really good job as well, the meals they prepared for us were huge and delicious. The equipment was decent - tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mats (very comfy) etc.everything was fine.
Overall I can only recommend this company, we had a great time with them, they offered us the best price and from what we saw around us during the trek they provided us with not only the same but maybe even better service than other companies. Thank you Rinjani Samalas for a great experience and also saving my phone with lots of memories from other previous trips on Lombok!

Highly recommend this company. We contacted Rinjani Samalas last minute about our Rinjani hike and they still managed to pull a great trip together including pick up from the Gili ferry, the hike itself and drop off in Senggigi afterwards. Our guide set a very good pace and timed our breaks well, which allowed us to reach the rim without any problems.

Climbing mount Rinjani is the best things I ever have in my life, so beautiful, so much fun, really peaceful and freedom

To start, this review is for the trekking company Rinjani Samalas. The trek itself, I thought was a but disappointing but that is the mountain conditions.
Rinjani Samalas were excellent. They looked after us completely, from the initial emails organising the trip, until they dropped us off at the ferry.
Nothing was too much trouble, they were helpful with our changing plans, the equipment i.e. Tents and sleeping bags were 9/10, the food was quite good considering the conditions they cook in, and the guide was very patient with us and our 12 year old daughter.
I would recommend these guys to look after you for this trek. Make sure you take poles, even if you don't normally use them.

The actual Rinjani trek itself was definitely hard, but Azmi and his team gave us a really good experience. Their prices were the most affordable among the others we asked quotes for, yet we were really taken care of well and everything we got was top notch. We were picked up smoothly from the airport and returned to senggigi after the end of the trek, shacked up at a comfortable, beautiful accommodation before the trek. The food during the trek were always delicious, and unlike a friend's feedback another tours, we did not get food poisoning/diarrhea once. The tents and sleeping bags were clean and we even had tables and chairs set up for all our meals (with bintang beer at night!). Our guides and porters were friendly, always helpful and accommodating with all our little requests and fun to be around. When you're in such a tough trek it is really nice to be looked after and pampered at some moments! The only thing is that we found that our leading guide was not as patient in helping the slower ones in the group who actually need more help and tend to go with the faster ones. We were left with a less experienced guide who tried his best to be helpful but nevertheless was not as knowledgeable. But anyways it was not a big deal as the tracks are self-explanatory, and all other aspects of our experience were really good. We're really glad we chose Rinjani Samalas for our trip

Great spot to be! So very kindness personal and a lot of real Indonesia atmosphere with good food, drinks and wonderful music every night. I loved to be there 4 nights! Highly recommend this place.
