INCREDIBLE, amazing scuba diving site. Rich with tropical fish, coral and cool shipwreck. Beautiful setting surrounded by volcanic soil from Mt Agung, coconut palm trees and volcanic stones. Only negative is shore diving can be tricky due to slippery rocks which may up the entire beach front which are hard to navigate without falling over in full kit.

USAT Liberty was a 125m long United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-166 in January 1942 and stranded on the island of Bali, Indonesia.
Its access is very easy, there is usually a little wind in the area, but about 15 or 20 m from the coast it is already accessible. You come face to face with the highest part of the Ship. There should be about 5 to 8 m deep and on the other side there is more. It is ideal for diving, but snorkeling on a good sunny day can be seen perfectly. A brutal experience to see a piece of history and how marine life has taken over it.
I will upload photos shortly

Very nice diving site
Were here with Bali Adventure Divers, which I can highly recommend!
There are lots of fish, corals and of course the already very decayed shipwreck to see.
We recommend!

As this was my first dive, it was a pleasure to see an actual wreck.
The amenities here were pretty ordinary, and the rocky beach made getting in and out with full scuba kit rather difficult, but with the trouble. Taking 3 hours to the in a bus ruins things a lot. Bali, please fix your road infrastructure.

One of the diving spots in Bali. There are several diving centers in Tulamben.
There is a lot of activity on the coarse rocky beach. And there are usually countless divers on site and in the water.
The wreck itself has been under water for several decades and is richly covered in corals. There are also lots of fish to see, and with a bit of luck even a shark.
Getting in and out is uncomfortable due to the large round stones. We saw some divers stumble and fall.
Due to the crowds of divers, we wouldn't go there again.

A really nice place, easy to access from the edge.
Don't forget your mask and snorkel to enjoy the place.
We identified ourselves with the few divers to locate the wreck, but to put it simply we have to locate the building with the markets which lead to the pebbles, the wreck is in this axis a few meters from the edge.
You will have to pay 20,000 rupees to park a scooter.

USAT Liberty was a United States Army cargo ship torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-166 in January 1942 and beached on the island of Bali,  Indonesia. She had been built as a Design 1037 ship for the United States Shipping Board in World War I and had served in the United States Navy in that war as animal transport USS Liberty  (ID-3461). She was also notable as the first ship constructed at Federal Shipbuilding,  Kearny, New Jersey. In 1963 a volcanic eruption moved the ship off the beach, and Liberty's wreck is now a popular dive site.

In January 1942, she was en route from Australia to the Philippines with a cargo of railway parts and rubber. On 11 January,  Liberty was torpedoed by Japanese submarine I-166 about 10 nautical miles (19 km) southwest of the Lombok Strait, near position 08°54′S 115°28′E. US destroyer Paul Jones and Dutch destroyer Van Ghent took the damaged ship in tow attempting to reach Celukan bawang harbour at Singaraja, the Dutch port and administrative centre for the Lesser Sunda Islands, on the north coast of Bali. However she was taking too much water and so was beached on the eastern shore of Bali at Tulamben so that the cargo and fittings could be salvaged.

In 1963 the tremors associated with the eruption of Mount Agung caused the vessel to slip off the beach, and she now lies on a sand slope in 25 to 100 feet (7.6 to 30.5 m) of water, providing one of the most popular dive sites off Bali.

Definitely one of my most favorite dive site in Bali. This dive site provide an outworld experience as we are wading through the remnant of WWII military ship that now provide refugee for a diverse marine life at Tulamben. 3 hours ride from Denpasar has been paid off, as this place is great for photographer (both wide and macro) or anyone that just have trying to do scuba dive. I met a sea turtle, stingrays, giant groupers, morays, and even a lonely bumphead parrotfish at a night dive session inside this area. Truly amazing.

A beautiful place for a ship wreck dive. The wreck is great, the fishes are colourful. It is perfectly situated and easy to reach for beginners. If you are more advanced you can go deeper. If you experience dawn in the water, you can see the world under water come to life.

Dived the wreck with Bali Cove divers - a fantastic family run business. It was important to us that we supported a local business and they were fantastic. The wreck was a great spot to dive. Also had a newbee with us and as parts of the wreck are very shallow it was fine for them as well.
