38Absolutely must see if you want to experience an amazing collection of masks not only from Bali but other parts of Indonesia and more
Really nice museum with extensive collection of interesting masks, puppets, and other theater items. Free admission but ask for donation, which is definitely worth it. Setting is very serene and relaxing too.
I am delighted! There was one, the guide girl arranged an individual tour for me, answered all, all questions, showed everything. Entrance is free, I didn’t even ask for a donation at the end, but I wanted to leave.
In addition to amazing masks, dolls and artifacts from all over Asia, there is a magnificent green area around: you can walk on foot, it is quiet, well-groomed, clean.
Magnificent museum (free!) little frequented where it is good to discover the Balinese culture through its masks, puppets and ceremonial costumes. An idyllic setting and on-site staff caring for visitors!
I visited the museum for the second time in just a few weeks. You can always find something new and surprising about art and culture or the region, or just enjoy the area, away from busy streets and roaring scooters.
Absolutely MUST VISIT for those who appreciate culture, history, and art. The guide was very friendly, speaks great english and is very knowledgable. The area is very quiet, not as much tourists and is very breezy and green. It’s well managed and I believe there is no entrance fee.
100% recommend!
Great collection of masks and puppets. The place is very quiet and your visit is highly recommended.
We went just after 8: 30 and were the only ones there. Having no real expectations I have to say it is a hidden gem and well worth a visit. Arriving on scooter means travelling through some beautiful villages. The grounds are beautifully designed and immaculate and each of the jogolos are packed with masks, puppets, tapestries and paintings from not just Bali but also Java and other asian countries. The buildings themselves are almost worth the visit and the exhibits have great descriptions of their history and meaning. Some look ancient and have a fantastic primitive feel. We later went to the nearby waterfall and the new butterfly farm so can recommend combining. Only thing to add is that the (blue) donation box is hard to find - we had to seek someone out to ask!
Very interesting museum filled with masks, puppets, and costumes. Best of all it's free entry and free guided tour.
Beautiful place, only a short drive outside of busy Ubud. You can easily do it by bike, scooter or car. The museum consists of several traditional houses in a park-like area, next to rice fields. Very nice to explore, and to learn about the manifold cultures of Indonesia by the masks and puppets they create and use in their traditions. Expect about 2 hours to see most of it. There is also an area for cultural events. Entry has been donation-based at the time of the visit.
This museum exceeded our expectations. The masks and puppets are beautifully displayed in 6 different buildings set in stunning gardens. Great thing to do for whole family.
A very unique and interesting museum! The museum is free to enjoy but consider giving a fair donation at the end, it is well worth it!
Not everyone can enjoy it. If you are interested with cultures, this place shoulf be in your checklist. Hundreds (or thousands?) of masks exhibits beautifully. The halls it self is a master piece.
Amazing place and amazing guide.
It's a museum that helps you to enter in indonesian material history and tradition.if you are an art lover you must see it!
Moreover it has a peaceful and beautiful location, it is clean and well managed.
Ps: entrance and guide were free!
A hidden little gem really worth the trip, the gardens and works are really nice. Very impressive masks
Really worthwhile visit. Gorgeous gardens, an interesting collection (across several buildings as others have posted), and free.
Definitely the best museum in Bali! It has an amazing collection of Balinese, Indonesian and foreign masks and puppets. Every exhibit has a professional description in English, thanks to which you can really learn a lot about various theatrical traditions. I definitely recommend it, it's worth to be visited more than once! The place itself is really nice too, so if you need a break, you can sit down and admire the nature, and there is a coffee shop with good coffee and good prices.
The collection of. Masks from Bali, Papua, Kalimantan and Jawa is amazing, even better that other collections in Jakarta. Also a great display of wayang kulit from Ramayana and Mahabharata. Very accesible and also entrance free. Just supported by donations. 5 big joglos full of history.
Stand on a well manicured garden, it has a great collection of Balinese mask, with label that provide detailed information on each mask.
