SACRED RICE by Chef James Tan

I had the shared menu at Sacred Rice which apparently changes with every season. Every single dish was amazing. The seafood in particular was out of this world. Worth the money.

Very nice degustation food, lovely setting in a rice field. A bit hot and sweaty if you're not under a fan though - it's a choice between view and fan!

This is an oasis for true foodies. It’s a hideaway that you need to visit when you are in Ubud. A tapas style food experience that is just simply amazing. This is “Food for sharing”.

Very balanced and well thought food, the chef delivered a lot of flavor and texture within bites and we could not be happier. We chose a 5 courses menu and additional deserts for 3 of us to pair with a recommended Indonesian Sauvignon Blanc. Well priced, i don’t get the comments about them being over priced. I mean everything costs $120 for 3 of us so $40 for each person, including wine and drinks.
The way to the restaurant is a bit long but don’t let that put you off.

Wow, what a hidden gem! This restaurant is amazing, from the location (amongst a rice field and their own organic farm), to the food (every dish was spectacular), and the service (everyone was so nice and they are so attentive).
We got the 5 course meal for two and it was plenty. It included a calamari and avocado dish, the most amazing chicken dish, a slow cooked beef dish, vegetable fried rice, and caramelized pork loin.
The price point is unbelievable for the level of quality and service. All of the ingredients are so fresh (and organic), and each dish is perfectly balanced.
I highly recommend Sacred Rice for a special occasion, romantic night out (especially when you get a table side by side facing the rice fields!), or a gathering between friends that appreciate food.

Have been to Ubud twice and both times been to Sacred Rice. The food here is divine and so well priced! I strongly recommend getting the 5 course food option! And the location - set amongst rice fields is just beautiful.

We've read so many lists of things to in Ubud and I would say this should be close to the top. The setting is truly stunning and the food just as good. The staff are as friendly and helpful as you could find in Bali. We always love finding new things to do in every place we visit, but for Sacred Rice we will make.an exception and return tomorrow night!

Absolutely Breath-taking. Chef James Tan, having upped stix and moved his Australian culinary operation to nearby shores here in the world tourist attraction that is Ubud, Bali, has created an utterly mouthwatering unforgettable restaurant. From the moment your transport reaches the unassuming sign that innocuously reads his restaurant's name, to the breathtaking quaint walk amongst candle-lit lanterns strewn along a cobbled pathway that tantalisingly lead you amongst a beautiful rice field to a stunning wooden path.and lo and behold, you reach the Oasis that is his stunning creative genius, Sacred Rice. Everything from where we sat in this stunning ambience (a limited number of tables so wise to book in advance so you are not disappointed), to the filtered water with ice and lemon that is so generously poured, to the effortlessly simple home-grown menu.which for me being a vegetarian was an utter delight. James Tan delivers in bucketfuls: charm, sophistication, beauty and a filling flavoursome gorgeous menu.made from his own substantial back garden.to ensure every one who is treated to his menu, leaves, wanting much much more. I want to write something bad, simply so that my party of ten & I can keep this incredible fantastic pan Asian fusion delight all to ourselves.but as I heartily told Me Tan, upon leaving his establishment, it's the very least we can do, to heartily advertise just how superb his restaurant is. Location is just great, we choose the 8 dishes menu, one plate was very good, others very average, lots of rice to make up for VERYsmall portions had to go out and eat afterwards The service took too long, and the price is well above the average in Bali. We were shocked at the bill, certainly did not compare to the standards of other 4 star restaurants in Ubud. We were a group of 8 from all over the world and all of the same opinion

First class food, wonderful experience! Place situated in the middle of rice fields every single detail is superb!

Location is just great, we choose the 7 dishes menu, some plate were very good, some other very average. The service has been too long, and the price is well above the average in Bali. Over-rated.

We went to Sacred Rice for my partners birthday and it was such a great experience! There is nothing to fault about this place; the service we received from Putu was spot on and the food and cocktails were divine. The gardens are perfectly manicured with lovely lighting once darkness falls. Don’t be fooled by the dirt road to get there; it’s a little hidden oasis! All the dishes were delicious but my favourite was the eggplant which was organically grown in the restaurant garden. My partner received a local Ubud cake and the staff sang happy birthday to him, ha ha ha. It would cost a bomb in Australia to receive this level of customer service and quality of food and drinks, but Sacred Rice was great value for the overall experience. It was a memorable night. Highly recommend!

The service is excellent but the food is not good as we expected from the price.

We choose vegetarian chief selection, but overall the food tasted very salty from the soup to main course that made me can not enjoy and eat any of it anymore. I know maybe local people doesn’t feel it like me, but if you are vegan or even on a healthy diet, I think there are a lot of better choices in Ubud. But I did enjoyed the salad and appreciate the creativity of the chief.

Besides, I personally not recommend (vegan option) to Hong Konger, because those food making concepts tasted really like from our local restaurants and mix Thai and Indian restaurant, not very surprising, maybe because I just can’t taste it except salty.

Last one, please book it in advance, if you really want to have a nice view and cozy space.

The food was excellent. The service excellent. Staff very helpful and friendly. The 5 course Vegetarian option to share, was more than enough portions. Highly recommended.

Excellent food and great venue. Though we went went all the rice fields were muddy and just harvested which didn't look the best but still the food was amazing. Lovely staff.

This place is out of this world! The views are incredible, the food is amazing and the staff is beyond wonderful and perfectly attentive. My only negative comment is that I didn’t find this place the first night I came to Ubud because I would have had every dinner here. Seriously wonderful! Thank you to the Chef and his amazing team.

Little gem, off the beaten track, but it adds to the experience. So friendly, such good food and what a location! Simply stunning. Thankyou Sacred Rice!

Prices are high, like in Europe, but the service is perfect! Tastes really good.
Ordered 7 course menu for two. It was enough for two of us. Very tasty. Desserts awesome!
