Birding Tours in Bali ( Made Surya )

Made organized us 3 different days of bird watching from 3 different cities for 4 people.
He took care of everything including transportation and meals.
Made is a knowledgeable, professional, efficient and caring guide. He knows the different habitats very well and maximized our observations. Without him, we would never have been able to observe so many species of birds.

I went on a 3 day photography tour with Made Surya recently, and it was a wonderful experience. We covered different habitats and terrains (wetlands, mountains, rainforest, scrub forest, etc.), and sighted and photographed a number of endemics, the highlight being the critically endangered Bali Starling/Myna. Surya's knowledge of the island and its habitats, and of the bird species is exceptional, as is his prowess is sighting birds, even the littlest ones that were so hard to see even after he pointed them out to us. He is very affable and hard-working, willing to put in extra effort for the client. In West Bali, we stayed at the homestay, Shalom homestay in Blimbingsari, run by his parents, Cornelius and Suvini, and Suvini's sister. The homestay is beautiful with clean rooms. The hosts are wonderful people who took really good care of us, and we had a great time there even though it was only for a night. Surya organized the tour very well for us and took care to cater to our special dietary needs. I would highly recommend Surya for anyone visiting Bali for birding, and look forward to going birding with him again soon.

Let me add the first Chinese comment to Made Bird watching with Made was a perfect ending to our trip to Bali.
The several private areas in Made in West Bali were great. We also saw basically all the target species that day as we expected: long-crested starling, Sunda collared owl, hooded hornbill, wood nightjar, chestnut-throated bee-eater, and yellow-eared bee-eater. Woodpeckers.it's a bit of a pity that we didn't wait for the three-toed kingfisher.
What’s even more regrettable is that my English is really badOtherwise, I would definitely have learned more from Made. Thanks to his patience, our communication didn’t have any big obstacles. Although I still didn’t understand sometimes, I hope he won’t dislike us hahaha
The driver who picked us up and dropped us off was very nice, and the lunch prepared by Made’s mother and sister was also very delicious. Thank you to them~
Finally, West Bali is really far away from Denpasar. If you want to go bird watching there, it is best to stay nearby so that you don’t have to go back and forth on the same day.

We did a day tour with Made around Bali Barat NP. It was amazing. Made knows a lot about birds and he brings you to spots no else knows. If you are in Bali and looking for a nice birding tour, Made is your guide! We saw lots of kingsfishers, Sunda scops owl, sunbirds, nightjars, colorful doves, bee eters, cuckooshrikes, drongo’s, night herons and of source the Bali Myna! (and many more) For me 40 new species on the list: D I recommend a day tour (not half) because time flies. We had lunch at his mom’s Warung which was nice!

Amazing birdwatching tour! Made took us in different habitats to see many different birds. He is knowledgeable and helpful, he explained us about the birds we saw, made sure we could see them well and asked us if we had questions or specific wishes. The tour was comfortable since he took us around with the car and when observing the birds or walking in nature he looked for shadow. He also asked us if we preferred to use more the car or walk more. We learned a lot about Bali’s birds and had a very enjoyable day!

We had a very rewarding day of birdwatching in West Bali National Park with Made. We stayed in Ubud and the taxi was sent to our hotel at 4 am, met with Made at 6: 30 in time to start the morning activities.

We always wanted to see Bali Starling, Javan Ptta and endemic birds. By visiting various locations throughout the day, we managed to capture many bird photos and some lifers without too much walking. Made is knowledgeable and very experienced, always surprised us with unexpected endemic birds. This is a highly recommended bird watching tour. Hope to be back for further adventure beyond Bali!

We had a wonderful day with Pak Made. He has an incredible ability to find and identify birds from their sounds and then show us them close up with his telescope. He took us to some lovely spots.

My 11 year old son is an avid birder and photographer. While in Bali, he did a Google Search and found Made. We arranged for a full day tour in Ubud and its nearby mountains, starting at 6: 30am. Made has a quick and keen eye and ear for the local birds. We saw 25+ new species.

Made is also one of the nicest people we met in Bali. He made a special effort to make sure my son saw every unique species. After a sighting, my son would show Made his photo, then he and Made would high five. Two kindred spirited birders. Needless to say, my son loved Made and had an amazing time on the tour.

I would highly recommend Made to anyone who is interested in birds, whether a novice or an expert birder.

Had a great day with Made and highly recommend him. I wanted some birding not far from my hotel in Nusa Dua and Made made an overnight trip just for my benefit. Much appreciated advice and guidance. One day I will go up to West Bali and look Made up again. Highly recommended.

It was amazing tour with Made. He has very knowledge about birds and observation spots. We observed birds around the West Bali National Park and sea salt areas for shore birds. If I wil back to Bali definitely I will tour again with Made. Thank you for all Made.

Highly recommend Made for birding around Bali! He is very knowledgeable and knows exactly where to find specific species in West Bali. He was also kind enough to come all the way to Sanur to guide us for a second day in SE Bali. As other reviewers have mentioned, Made is very friendly and easy to spend the day with, which is perhaps just as important as birding expertise. You won't be disappointed!

Had two birdwatching trips with Made, one West Bali and another in Nusa Dua. Over 70 species observed, with very helpful information about each bird. Strongly recommend Made as a guide for anyone passionate about birds in Bali.

We did a one day tour with Made and let me tell you, he gave us the experience of a LIFETIME! We had a big year of birding in one day! It was a total dream come true for us. Made was an extremely warm and friendly host and had expert birding knowledge which we are so grateful to have experienced first hand. You could tell he put in an extensive amount of preparation time to ensure we had a fun filled day packed with lifer birds. Lunch was excellent, would go again on our own to enjoy. Also, no need to worry about anything, he brought all the professional equipment you could possibly need.

If you are interested in birding in any capacity, this is the ultimate experience you will remember forever! We are already planning to come back and do a multi day trip in the future!

Made is an excellent birding guide. He tool my wife and I on a tour of the lagoons and he was fantastic. He could spot a small cerulean kingfisher (very small) from an unbelievable distance!

In addition, he is a very nice guy and we enjoyed his company.

I spent 3 mornings birding with Made. Beforehand I had asked him to pay particular attention to (Indonesian) endemics on which he made a detailed itinerary.
Made knows all the birds and sounds and knows where to find them.
Moreover, he is a very nice person with a good sense of humor.
